Since Springfield Yellow Cab offers wheelchair accessible taxicab service, our team often provides driving services to those in need of a ride in a specialized vehicle. During those drives, we’ve heard so many heartbreaking stories about difficulties these groups face on the everyday basis when trying to do even the simplest of things, like run errands or go out for a meal. To make things easier for everybody involved, we assembled a list of activities that everyone can enjoy, no matter if you are a person with a disability or not.
1) Leesylvania State Park
This park stretches along the shore of Potomac River and offers many land and water-based activities for its visitors to enjoy. Here you will find lots of things to admire, like a turtle pond, the beach (including the fishing pier), picnics, playground for kiddos and above else trails with a wonderful, scenic view. Although you don’t have to pay to enter, there’s a parking fee you won’t be able to bypass. However, when you use the services of Springfield Yellow Cab, naturally, you don’t have to worry about little inconveniences like those, either.
2) Potomac Mills Outlet Mall
When you find yourself on the lookout for bargains and good deals, don’t miss this outlet mall! To ensure a pleasant shopping trip, most stores have wide aisles to provide a comfortable passage for people navigating wheelchairs. Options in the food court are great and you can also watch the freshest titles in the movie theater. Dear shoppers prepare your wallets!
3) City of Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center
If you want to learn more about Fairfax, this is the place to visit. Although this small museum focuses mainly on the city’s Civil War Battles, it’s filled with many generally fun facts about the county! The entrance is free and there is a plethora of artifacts displayed. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff updates their exhibitions regularly every few months so that returning visitors always have the possibility to learn and see something new. The whole place is wheelchair friendly, of course.
4) Trails
We found a few trails that can be enjoyed without major difficulties even if you do require a wheelchair to get around. For example, Cross County Trail has many sections (although unfortunately not all) which are accessible by wheelchair. In case you are an avid bird watcher or animal lover you’ll most likely find creatures to admire along the way. Then there’s Huntley Meadows Park which has paved wheelchair accessible trails and viewing platforms when you want to make a little break or simply bask in the beauty of a wonderful view. West Ox Road Sidepath is also among accessible trails. So, friends, don’t forget your binoculars & bottles of water and hope it doesn’t rain when you decide to roam through the great outdoors!
5) Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts
For a guaranteed good time don’t forget to stop by this wonderful venue! There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor happenings to choose from. You can take your pick between pop, country & orchestra events, theater, opera and all kinds of art performances. Inform the friendly staff about any additional needs you may have, and they will go above and beyond to make your experience as pleasant as possible.
6) National Firearms Museum
Even if you are not a gun person, this institution’s a treat! Plenty of one of a kind, antique weaponry, will make your jaw drop since this is one of the top collections of civilian and military firearms, ammunition and other weapon-related things. The time will fly by when you walk in to the world filled with engraved pistols and gorgeous rifles.
When visiting any part of Northern Virginia, don’t forget that Yellow Checker Cab stands at your disposal for any kind of transfer you need & want!
